Hollow strap-ons combine an external penetrative shaft with an internal cavity that can accommodate part or all of the wearer’s penis or, on some designs, another compatible insert. A harness or retention system supports the hollow attachment during penetration, allowing it to add external length, girth or firmness without requiring the wearer to rely entirely on an erection for stability.
The most important measurements are not just the external length and diameter. The internal cavity diameter and depth, harness fit, attachment stability and shaft rigidity determine whether the toy will work comfortably for the wearer. For the receiving partner, external diameter, usable length and control still matter just as they would with any other penetrative toy.
For this guide, I compared cavity dimensions, external dimensions, harness range, attachment method, materials, rigidity, vibration or other powered features, waterproofing, cleaning and how easily the wearer can maintain control. I also distinguish products that simply provide a hollow extension from vibrating, ejaculating and multi-attachment designs.
Quick Verdict
Doc Johnson Body Extensions Be Ready is my Best Overall hollow strap-on. Its four-piece system combines an adjustable 28-48 inch harness with three hollow silicone attachments: a 7-inch bulbed model, 7.5-inch slim model and 8-inch larger model. That gives users three external profiles without replacing the complete harness system.
Lovehoney Perfect Partner Unisex Hollow Vibrating Strap-On is my Best Realistic Vibrating Hollow Strap-On. It combines an 8-inch insertable PVC shaft, 3 speeds, 7 vibration patterns and a wired controller. Lovehoney currently lists it as Last Chance, so availability may depend on remaining inventory.
Doc Johnson Body Extensions Be Strong is my Best Slim Hollow Strap-On for users who want the Body Extensions system with a narrower 7.5-inch × 1.75-inch attachment, while Body Extensions Be Bold is my Best Large Hollow Strap-On with an 8-inch × 2-inch external profile.
Pipedream’s 7-inch rechargeable model is my Best Rechargeable Vibrating Hollow Strap-On. It combines a 7-inch insertable hollow shaft with an adjustable harness and powered vibration, making it the strongest option on this list for users who specifically want a rechargeable vibrating hollow design.
Fetish Fantasy Ejaculating Hollow Strap-On is my Best Ejaculating Hollow Strap-On. Its 7.5-inch insertable shaft includes a tip reservoir that can dispense compatible liquid, while the adjustable elastic harness fits approximately 30-52 inch waists. Availability is now limited in some regions.

How We Select, Test and Rank Hollow Strap-Ons
We evaluate both sides of a hollow strap-on. For the wearer, that means checking the cavity diameter and depth, harness adjustment, rigidity, pressure and how securely the attachment stays positioned. For the receiving partner, we compare external length, diameter, shape and how easily depth and angle can be controlled.
For powered models, we also evaluate motor placement, vibration settings, power source, controls and waterproof rating. Ejaculating models require additional attention to the reservoir, filling method and cleaning because the internal liquid pathway adds another component that needs to be rinsed and dried thoroughly.
Materials are evaluated based on the manufacturer’s exact construction and care instructions rather than assuming that every product made from one material category behaves the same way. Mixed-material harnesses and powered products may need different cleaning methods for different components.
Hollow strap-ons can sometimes make penetrative sex possible when erection firmness varies because the external shaft supplies its own structure. That is a functional use of the product, not a treatment or cure for erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation.
The Wow Factor reflects PleasureMeNow's editorial assessment, while reader votes help determine the numbered ranking. Editorial awards focus on the strongest practical reason to choose each product. Top 10 Hollow Strap-Ons in 2026
This ranking includes multi-attachment silicone systems, non-powered hollow extensions, vibrating models, an ejaculating model and larger-profile options. Compare the cavity and harness measurements first, then choose the external shaft dimensions and features that suit the intended receiver.
A hollow strap-on is not contraception and does not prevent sexually transmitted infections. If pregnancy or STI protection is relevant, use an appropriate barrier method according to its instructions rather than relying on the hollow dildo itself.

- Pros
- Elegant and effective design
- Three interchangeable attachments are straightforward to assemble and remove
- The silicone material feels extra smooth
- The three dong sizes and shapes were perfect for me and my partner
- Cons
- The 1.6-inch internal cavity may feel restrictive for wearers with more girth
- The buttons on the elastic harness feel a bit cheap
The Doc Johnson Body Extensions Be Ready is the most versatile hollow strap-on system in this ranking because it gives you three interchangeable attachment profiles with one adjustable harness. The set includes a 7-inch bulbed attachment, a 7.5-inch slim attachment and an 8-inch large attachment, so you can switch between different external sizes and shapes without replacing the entire setup.
Each hollow attachment has an internal diameter of approximately 1.6 inches, so fit will depend on individual girth. My boyfriend found the sizing comfortable, but users with a wider girth may find the interior more restrictive.
I also like how straightforward the system is to assemble and take apart. The harness adjusts from approximately 28 to 48 inches, while the silicone attachments can be cleaned according to Doc Johnson’s care instructions. Clean the silicone attachments according to Doc Johnson’s care instructions and clean the harness separately rather than immersing the complete system.
Bottom line: the Best Overall hollow strap-on on this list for users who want one adjustable system with three interchangeable external sizes and shapes.
Fetish Fantasy Unisex Extreme Hollow Strap-On
Best Faux-Leather Hollow Strap-On
Tried it? Rate it! ( user's ratings directly affect the position of products in this table)
94
- Material: PVC
- Power source: None
- Allergens: Contains Latex, Phthalate-Free
- Length: 266.7 mm / 10.5 in
- Maximum harness size: 1270 mm / 50 in
- Internal length: 152.4 mm / 6 in
- Insertable length: 203.2 mm / 8 in
- Circumference: 177.8 mm / 7 in
- Canal diameter: 31.75 mm / 1.25 in
- Waterproof: Submersible
- Flexibility: Flexible
- Pros
- Harness can adjust between 16 and 50 inches
- Rigid hollow shaft provides independent structure during penetration
- Submersible PVC attachment; clean faux-leather harness separately
- Cons
- Contains traces of latex
- Could be too big for those inexperienced with dildos
The Fetish Fantasy Unisex Extreme Hollow Strap-On has a larger, bulkier profile than some of the slimmer options on this list, so it may take a little practice to position comfortably. The faux-leather harness is highly adjustable, though, and I found it straightforward to put on and secure once properly fitted.
The rigid hollow design can provide additional structure during penetration when erection firmness varies, but it does not treat erectile dysfunction or reliably delay ejaculation. Its main appeal is the combination of a substantial hollow dildo and an adjustable faux-leather harness.
The dildo is made from PVC, so follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and lubricant guidance for the exact product. Availability is also limited: the model is currently sold out through Lovehoney, although remaining stock may still be available from other retailers.
Bottom line: the Best Faux-Leather Hollow Strap-On on this list, combining a large non-powered hollow dildo with a highly adjustable faux-leather harness. Its bulkier profile may require more practice, and availability is currently limited.
Lovehoney Perfect Partner
Best Realistic Vibrating Hollow Strap-On
Tried it? Rate it! ( user's ratings directly affect the position of products in this table)
92
- Material: PVC
- Power source: 2 x AA Batteries (not included)
- Allergens: Latex-Free, Phthalate-Free
- Length: 215.9 mm / 8.5 in
- Maximum harness size: 965.2 mm / 38 in
- Internal length: 152.4 mm / 6 in
- Insertable length: 203.2 mm / 8 in
- Circumference: 158.75 mm / 6.25 in
- Canal diameter: 38.1 mm / 1.5 in
- Waterproof: Splashproof
- Flexibility: Firm
- Pros
- Contours, veins and bumps make for a realistic feel
- Both partners can control the vibration mode via the wired remote
- Firm textured PVC shaft with wired vibration control
- Cons
- Might be too rigid for some users
- Batteries are not included in the package
If you prefer a more realistic-looking hollow strap-on, the Lovehoney Perfect Partner combines a firm PVC construction with pronounced veins and surface texture for more noticeable stimulation during penetration.
The dildo offers approximately 8 inches of insertable length, with a 1.5-inch internal canal diameter and around 6 inches of internal depth. It runs on 2 AA batteries and uses wired vibration controls, making it straightforward to operate without app setup or wireless pairing.
I found the firmer construction easy to position and control, although users who prefer softer or more flexible dildos may find it less forgiving. The product is latex-free, and its splashproof construction means it should be cleaned according to the manufacturer’s care instructions rather than treated as fully submersible.
Bottom line: the Best Realistic Vibrating Hollow Strap-On on this list, combining a firm textured PVC dildo, wired vibration control, and a hollow 1.5-inch canal for users who want a more realistic vibrating design.
Doc Johnson Body Extensions Be Strong
Best Slim Hollow Strap-On
Tried it? Rate it! ( user's ratings directly affect the position of products in this table)
82
- Material: Silicone & Elastic Harness
- Power source: None
- Allergens: Phthalate-free
- Total length: 190.5 mm / 7.5 in
- Width / Diameter: 44.5 mm / 1.75 in
- Circumference: 146.1 mm / 5.75 in
- Harness fits waists: 710 to 1210 mm / 28 to 48 in
- Waterproof: Submersible
- Warranty: 90 days
- Pros
- Comes with a premium silicone harness
- Slim 7.5-inch hollow silicone attachment
- Adjustable silicone/elastic harness fits approximately 28-48 inch waists
- Cons
- The surface is smooth and not at all realistic
- Some might find it too stiff
The Doc Johnson Body Extensions Be Strong is the slim option in the Body Extensions lineup, pairing a 7.5-inch hollow silicone attachment with an adjustable harness that fits approximately 28 to 48 inches.
I like the smoother, slimmer profile because it is easier to position and less bulky than some of the larger hollow strap-ons on this list. The design is straightforward rather than highly realistic, so it is better suited to users who prioritize a narrower shape and simpler insertion over pronounced texture.
The silicone attachment should be cleaned according to Doc Johnson’s care instructions for the exact product and allowed to dry fully before storage.
Bottom line: the Best Slim Hollow Strap-On on this list for users who want a slim 7.5-inch hollow silicone attachment with an adjustable 28–48 inch harness.
Doc Johnson Body Extensions Be Daring
Best Bulbed Hollow Strap-On
Tried it? Rate it! ( user's ratings directly affect the position of products in this table)
73
- Material: Silicone & Elastic Harness
- Power source: None
- Allergens: Phthalate-free
- Total Length: 177.8 mm / 7 in
- Width / Diameter: 44.5 mm / 1.75 in
- Circumference: 146.1 mm / 5.75 in
- Harness fits waists: 710 to 1210 mm / 28 to 48 in
- Waterproof: Submersible
- Warranty: 90 days
- Pros
- 7-inch bulbed hollow silicone attachment with a fuller external profile
- The harness is fully adjustable and comes with elasticized bands
- Includes a detailed instruction manual for use and maintenance
- Cons
- The surface is too smooth, so the feeling is not realistic
- Some might find it a bit too stiff
The Doc Johnson Body Extensions Be Daring stands out for its 7-inch bulbed hollow silicone attachment, which gives it a fuller external profile than the slimmer Body Extensions models. The adjustable harness fits approximately 28 to 48 inches and can accommodate different wearer configurations within that stated fit range.
I also like that the system is relatively straightforward to assemble and position. The included instructions help explain setup, use, and maintenance, which is useful even if you already have experience with strap-on systems.
The surface is smoother and less realistic than heavily textured dildos, so it may not appeal as much to users who specifically want pronounced veins or ridges. Its main strength is the rounded bulbed profile combined with the adjustable hollow strap-on setup.
Bottom line: the Best Bulbed Hollow Strap-On on this list for users who want a 7-inch hollow silicone attachment with a fuller bulbed shape and an adjustable 28-48 inch harness.
Pipedream 7" Hollow Rechargeable Strap-On
Best Rechargeable Vibrating Hollow Strap-On
Tried it? Rate it! ( user's ratings directly affect the position of products in this table)
61
- Material: PVC, ABS plastic
- Power source: Rechargeable
- Battery power source: 2 AA batteries (not included)
- Allergens: Phthalate-free
- Size: 187.96 x 43.18 mm / 7.4 x 1.7 in
- Insertable length: 177.8 mm / 7 in
- Waist size: Fits up to 1 320.8 mm / 52 in
- Warranty: 90 days
- Pros
- Hollow extension-style shaft with adjustable harness
- 10 vibration, pulsation and escalation modes
- A single charge lasts about 2 hours
- Cons
- Firm PVC/ABS construction may feel less flexible than softer hollow attachments
- Can be difficult to clean and maintain
The Pipedream 7-Inch Hollow Rechargeable Strap-On is the powered option on this list for users who specifically want vibration built into a hollow strap-on system. Its 7-inch insertable shaft provides the external penetration profile, while the adjustable harness helps keep the attachment positioned during use.
I like the added vibration because it gives this model a clear functional difference from the non-powered hollow strap-ons in the ranking. The PVC and ABS construction creates a firmer powered design, while the hollow format allows the wearer to use it as an extension-style strap-on.
As with any hollow strap-on, check the internal fit, harness adjustment and external dimensions before use, and follow the manufacturer’s lubricant, cleaning and care instructions for the exact product.
Bottom line: the Best Rechargeable Vibrating Hollow Strap-On on this list for users who want a powered hollow design with an adjustable harness and 7-inch insertable shaft.
Fetish Fantasy Ejaculating Hollow Strap-On
Best Ejaculating Hollow Strap-On
Tried it? Rate it! ( user's ratings directly affect the position of products in this table)
50
- Material: PVC
- Power source: None
- Allergens: Phthalate-Free
- Length: 215.9 mm / 8.5 in
- Insertable length: 190.5 mm / 7.5 in
- Circumference: 158.75 mm / 6.25 in
- Canal diameter: 44.45 mm / 1.75 in
- Waterproof: Submersible
- Warranty: 90 days
- Pros
- Comes with a liquid reservoir at the tip
- Adjustable harness fits approximately 30-52 inch waists
- Submersible hollow attachment; clean reservoir and harness according to their individual care instructions
- Cons
- It’s a bit difficult to clean
- Too expensive for a relatively simple hollow strap
The Fetish Fantasy Ejaculating Hollow Strap-On stands out for its built-in liquid reservoir, which can create a simulated ejaculation effect during use. The hollow dildo offers approximately 7.5 inches of insertable length, a 6.25-inch circumference, and a 1.75-inch internal canal diameter.
The PVC dildo is rated submersible, while the reservoir adds an extra cleaning step compared with simpler hollow strap-ons. Empty and clean the reservoir thoroughly after use, then allow the components to dry completely before storage.
I also like the adjustable harness, which fits approximately 30 to 52 inches. The textured external profile adds more surface sensation, while the reservoir gives this model a feature none of the standard non-powered hollow strap-ons on this list provide.
Bottom line: the Best Ejaculating Hollow Strap-On on this list, combining a liquid reservoir, textured 7.5-inch insertable dildo, and adjustable 30-52-inch harness. Lovehoney currently lists it as Last Chance, so availability may vary by region.
Doc Johnson Body Extensions Be Bold
Best Large Hollow Strap-On
Tried it? Rate it! ( user's ratings directly affect the position of products in this table)
33
- Material: Silicone & Elastic Harness
- Power source: None
- Allergens: Phthalate-free
- Total length: 203.2 mm / 8 in
- Width / Diameter: 50.8 mm / 2 in
- Circumference: 177.81 mm / 7 in
- Fits waists : 710 to 1210 mm / 28 to 48 in
- Waterproof: Submersible
- Warranty: 90 days
- Pros
- Non-powered hollow silicone design with no batteries or charging
- Large-profile 8-inch × 2-inch hollow silicone attachment
- The harness is adjustable and has wide elastic bands
- Cons
- The material is a bit flimsy
- The surface is smooth, so there’s no added inner stimulation
The Doc Johnson Body Extensions Be Bold is the largest-profile option in the Body Extensions lineup, with an 8-inch hollow silicone attachment measuring approximately 2 inches in diameter and 7 inches in circumference. The adjustable harness fits approximately 28 to 48 inches.
I like the smooth surface and substantial external profile, especially if you want something noticeably fuller than the Be Strong or Be Daring models. The hollow design can provide independent structure during penetration when erection firmness varies, but it does not treat erectile dysfunction or increase sexual stamina.
The larger dimensions are the main consideration here. Users who prefer slimmer or more flexible hollow attachments may find this model more demanding, while those specifically looking for a larger profile will get the clearest benefit from its size and shape.
Bottom line: the Best Large Hollow Strap-On on this list for users who want an 8-inch hollow silicone attachment with a substantial 2-inch diameter and an adjustable 28-48 inch harness.
Fetish Fantasy 10 Inch Hollow Dreams Strap-On
Best Budget XL Hollow Strap-On
Tried it? Rate it! ( user's ratings directly affect the position of products in this table)
24
- Material: TPR
- Power source: None
- Allergens: Phthalate-free
- Length: 266.7 mm / 10.5 in
- Insertable length: 241.3 mm / 9.5 in
- Width: 50.8 mm / 2 in
- Inner diameter: 38.1 mm / 1.5 in
- Waist size: Up to 1 219.2 mm / 48 in
- Weight: 415 g / 14.64 oz
- Waterproof: Submersible
- Warranty: 90 days
- Pros
- Strap designed for comfort and support
- The harness is extra elastic
- Phthalate-free TPR construction
- Cons
- Has a bit of a stiff, plastic feeling
- It’s tricky to clean
The Fetish Fantasy 10 Inch Hollow Dreams Strap-On is the largest budget-focused option on this list, measuring approximately 10.5 inches overall with around 9.5 inches of insertable length, a 2-inch width, and a 1.5-inch internal cavity.
The TPR dildo has a softer, smoother feel than firmer silicone or PVC models, while the curved profile can provide more directional pressure depending on anatomy and positioning. I found the material more flexible than some of the heavier-duty hollow strap-ons, which may appeal to users who prefer a less rigid feel.
The adjustable harness fits up to approximately 48 inches, and the combination of extra length, thicker dimensions, and lower price is the main reason to consider this model. Users who prefer a very firm or highly structured dildo may find the softer TPR construction less suitable.
Bottom line: the Best Budget XL Hollow Strap-On on this list for users who want a long 9.5-inch insertable hollow dildo, substantial 2-inch width, and adjustable harness at a more accessible price.
Lux Fetish Unisex Vibrating Hollow Strap-On Dildo

9
- Material: ABS, Nylon, PVC
- Power source: 2 AAA batteries (not included)
- Allergens: Phthalate-free
- Size: One size fits most
- Pros
- Stretch elastic waistband provides adjustable fit
- Crafted from phthalate-free PVC, nylon and ABS plastic
- Features a hollow shaft and wired controller with 7 vibration settings
- Cons
- AAA batteries are not included with the product
- Doesn’t come with a storage bag
The Lux Fetish Unisex Vibrating Hollow Strap-On Dildo is one of the lighter powered options on this list, using an elastic waistband that makes the harness feel less bulky during wear. The combination of PVC, ABS and nylon keeps the overall setup relatively easy to move with during partnered play.
The vibrator runs on 2 AAA batteries and offers 7 vibration settings controlled through a wired controller. I liked having multiple patterns to switch between without adding the extra setup that comes with rechargeable or app-connected toys.
The stretch elastic waistband provides adjustable fit, although comfort and stability will still depend on individual body shape and positioning. The toy combines PVC, ABS and nylon components, so follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and lubricant guidance for the complete product.
Bottom line: the Best Lightweight Vibrating Hollow Strap-On on this list, combining an elastic waistband, wired control and 7 vibration settings in a relatively light battery-powered setup.

Back To The Top 10 Hollow Strap-Ons
How Hollow Strap-Ons Work
“With hollow strap-ons, size is only part of the equation. The right fit depends on how the internal cavity fits the wearer, how the external shaft suits the receiving partner, and how securely the harness keeps everything positioned during use.”
A good hollow strap-on should work for both partners, not just look impressive on paper. Start by checking the internal cavity dimensions against the wearer’s anatomy, then look at the external length, width and shape to make sure they suit the receiving partner’s preferences and comfort level. Harness fit matters just as much because secure retention gives the wearer better control over angle and movement. The best option is one that balances cavity fit, external dimensions, harness stability and shared control without forcing either partner into an uncomfortable setup.
What Hollow Strap-Ons Are Designed to Do
Hollow strap-ons can change the external dimensions, shape, texture or firmness available during penetration without requiring the wearer’s anatomy itself to match those dimensions. Depending on the model, they can provide a longer, wider, firmer or differently shaped external profile while the wearer remains positioned inside the hollow cavity.
The actual change depends on the specific attachment, so there is no universal amount of added length or girth. Some models add only a modest increase, while others create a much larger external profile. The best choice is the one whose internal cavity fits the wearer comfortably and whose external dimensions match the receiving partner’s preferences and limits.
What Is a Hollow Strap-On?
Hollow strap-ons usually combine a wearable harness with a hollow attachment designed to fit over the wearer’s penis. Unlike a standard strap-on dildo, the attachment contains an internal cavity, so fit depends on both the wearer’s anatomy and the dimensions of that cavity.
The harness is what keeps the attachment positioned during use. Different models use adjustable straps, elastic waistbands or other retention systems, so it is important to check the stated fit range rather than assuming every harness will work for every body.
The hollow attachment creates an external profile that can differ from the wearer’s anatomy in length, width, firmness, shape or texture. Some models are smooth and non-powered, while others add vibration, realistic texture, interchangeable attachments or liquid-dispensing features.
For the wearer, comfort depends on the internal cavity being appropriately sized without painful pressure, pinching or circulation problems. For the receiving partner, the important considerations are the attachment’s external dimensions, shape and firmness. Both partners should be able to control positioning, depth and movement comfortably.
The basic mechanics are simple: the wearer fits into the hollow attachment, secures the harness according to the manufacturer’s instructions and uses the external portion for penetration. The experience depends on the specific product and fit, which is why cavity dimensions, external dimensions and harness retention matter more than gender or sexual orientation.
Potential Benefits and Limitations of Hollow Strap-Ons
Hollow strap-ons can be useful for several reasons, but they should be introduced as an optional shared sex toy rather than as a solution to someone’s body, sexual performance or medical concerns. If you and your partner are considering one, these are the practical benefits to focus on:
- Different external dimensions – A hollow attachment can provide a different length, width, shape, texture or firmness than the wearer’s anatomy, depending on the specific model.
- Independent structure – Because the external attachment provides its own shape and firmness, some hollow strap-ons can still be used for penetration when erection firmness varies. They do not treat erectile dysfunction.
- More stimulation options – Some models add vibration, textured surfaces, interchangeable attachments or other features that can change the experience for one or both partners. There is no guaranteed orgasm or ejaculation-delay effect.
- Shared control and positioning – A properly fitted harness can help keep the attachment securely positioned while allowing both partners to communicate about angle, depth and movement. Hollow strap-ons are not contraceptive barriers and do not protect against STIs, so use appropriate safer-sex methods when needed.
Types of Hollow Strap-Ons
Here’s where we get to the fun part: choosing your perfect strap-on! As I said, there are tons of options on the market. One way to narrow them down is to check out all the different types:
Non-Vibrating Hollow Strap-Ons
Non-powered hollow strap-ons focus on the fit and structure of the attachment rather than vibration. Start by checking the internal cavity dimensions against the wearer’s anatomy, then look at the material and rigidity to determine how snug, flexible or supportive the toy is likely to feel during use.
The harness should keep the attachment stable without excessive tightening, while the external length, width, shape and texture should suit the receiving partner’s preferences and comfort level. Some models use smoother silicone attachments, while others use PVC, TPR or other materials, so compare the exact construction, cavity size, harness fit range and external dimensions rather than assuming all non-powered hollow strap-ons feel or perform the same way.
Vibrating Hollow Strap-Ons
Vibrating hollow strap-ons add powered stimulation to the basic hollow attachment and harness design, but the control system varies by product. Some models use built-in vibration with rechargeable power, while others rely on replaceable batteries or a wired controller.
Check the exact number of vibration speeds or patterns, how the controls work, and whether the toy is rechargeable before comparing models. For example, one product may offer multiple settings through a wired control, while another may combine rechargeable power with several speeds and patterns. The useful difference is not simply that the toy vibrates, but how the vibration is powered, adjusted and integrated into the hollow attachment.
Extra Large Hollow Strap-Ons
Extra-large hollow strap-ons are defined by their external dimensions rather than by a universal size standard. If you are comparing XL models, look closely at the total length, insertable length, diameter or circumference, internal cavity dimensions and harness fit instead of relying on labels such as “large” or “XL” alone.
Larger external dimensions can create a noticeably different experience, but they should match the receiving partner’s existing comfort and experience with comparable lengths and widths. More size is not automatically better, and there is no need to progress toward larger toys as a goal. Choose dimensions both partners can comfortably control, use compatible lubricant, communicate about depth and pressure, and stop if there is pain, numbness or persistent discomfort.
Other Hollow Strap-On Designs
- Other harness arrangements – Hollow strap-ons can use adjustable straps, elastic waistbands or other harness systems. Compare the stated fit range, retention method and adjustability to find a setup that feels secure and comfortable for the wearer.
- Ejaculating reservoir designs – Some hollow strap-ons include a refillable liquid reservoir that creates a simulated ejaculation effect. These models require extra attention to reservoir cleaning, drying and storage after use.
- Double-penetration configurations – Some strap-on systems combine multiple penetrators or attachment points for double-penetration play. Check the exact dimensions, positioning and intended use of each penetrator before choosing one.
- Penis sleeves and extenders – Sleeves and extenders are a separate category that usually fit directly over the penis rather than relying on a full waist-and-hip harness. Their retention systems, cavity dimensions and external profiles vary, so compare the specific design rather than treating them as interchangeable with hollow strap-ons.

How to Choose a Hollow Strap-On
Which of those types excites you the most? I told you you’d have some option anxiety! Of course, you don’t need to try every option out there. Instead, follow these tips to help you choose the strap-on that suits you best:
Hollow Strap-On Mistakes to Avoid
- Not measuring your partner’s girth before buying – the hollow interior needs to accommodate the wearer comfortably. A cavity that is too tight can cause pain, pinching, numbness or circulation problems, while one that is too loose may not stay securely positioned. Always check the internal diameter and depth before purchasing.
- Using the wrong lubricant – use enough lubricant for comfortable insertion, but follow the manufacturer’s exact compatibility guidance for the specific toy material and construction rather than assuming every silicone or TPE model requires the same type.
- Not discussing it with your partner first – a hollow strap-on should be something both partners want to explore. Introduce it around the activity, features or sensations you are interested in rather than presenting it as a correction for someone’s body.
- Choosing external dimensions that do not suit the receiving partner – do not use the wearer’s natural size as a formula for selecting the attachment. Check the dildo’s insertable length, width, circumference, shape and firmness, then choose dimensions that match the receiving partner’s existing comfort and experience.
- Not cleaning the internal channel thoroughly – hollow attachments can retain residue inside the cavity, so follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions for the exact material and construction. Clean the internal channel as directed, rinse when appropriate and allow every component to dry completely before storage.
What to Check Before Buying
- Check the internal cavity first. Compare the hollow section’s internal diameter and depth with the wearer’s anatomy so the fit is secure without causing painful pressure, pinching, numbness or circulation problems.
- Compare the external dimensions. Look at insertable length, width, circumference, shape and texture, then choose a profile that matches the receiving partner’s comfort, experience and preferences.
- Check the harness fit range. Adjustable straps, elastic waistbands and other retention systems all fit differently, so use the manufacturer’s stated measurements rather than assuming a harness will fit every body.
- Consider rigidity and material. Silicone, PVC, TPR and other constructions can differ in firmness, flexibility and surface feel, so choose the combination that suits how you plan to use the toy.
- Compare powered features carefully. If you want vibration, check whether the toy is rechargeable or battery-powered, how the controls work and exactly how many speeds or patterns the confirmed model provides.
- Review the cleaning instructions before buying. Hollow channels, harnesses, motors and reservoirs may require different care, so make sure the complete system can be cleaned and dried in a way that works for you.
- Check lubricant compatibility for the exact product. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance for the specific material and construction rather than relying on a blanket rule for silicone, TPE, PVC or other materials.
- Confirm current availability and the exact SKU. Some hollow strap-ons on this list are discontinued, limited-stock or sold in multiple versions, so verify that the specifications match the model you are actually purchasing.
Choose the Right Harness and Attachment System
Besides a wide variety of dildos, sizes and shapes, you also need to choose a harness and attachment system that fits securely and works with the specific hollow dildo you plan to use:
- One-piece type – These combine the harness and attachment system into a single design. They can be simple to set up, but you may have fewer options for swapping the hollow dildo or changing the fit.
- Strap-style attachment – Adjustable strap harnesses let you fine-tune the fit around the waist and hips. Focus on the stated fit range, how evenly the straps distribute pressure and whether the harness stays stable during movement rather than assuming that more straps automatically mean better support.
- Removable dildo harness – Some harnesses use O-rings or other removable attachment systems so compatible hollow dildos can be swapped. Check the required ring diameter, attachment method and weight compatibility before assuming a different dildo will fit securely.
How to Choose Hollow Strap-On Materials
Material affects flexibility, firmness, surface feel, cleaning requirements and lubricant compatibility. There is no single material that is automatically best for every hollow strap-on, so check the exact construction and manufacturer guidance for the product you are considering:
- Silicone – Silicone can provide a smooth, flexible surface and is used in several hollow strap-ons on this list. Cleaning methods and lubricant compatibility still depend on the complete product, especially when the attachment includes motors, adhesives or other materials.
- TPE – TPE is generally softer and more flexible than many rigid materials, but it can also be porous. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and storage instructions carefully and inspect the surface regularly for damage or deterioration.
- Plastic – ABS and other plastics may be used for structural components, controls or parts of powered hollow strap-ons. Their rigidity can be useful for support, but the feel and suitability depend on where the material is used in the complete design.
PVC, rubber, jelly-style materials and mixed constructions should not be judged by material name alone. Some current hollow strap-ons use phthalate-free PVC, while formulations and product quality vary between manufacturers. Check the exact material disclosure, whether the manufacturer specifically states that the product is phthalate-free, and the recommended cleaning, lubricant and care instructions for that model.
Choose the Right Shape and Texture
This is where you and your partner should focus on the external shape and feel that best match the way you plan to use the toy.
Curvature can provide more directional pressure, while added texture can create more noticeable surface sensation. Rigidity affects how much the attachment flexes during use, and diameter has a major impact on how substantial it feels for the receiving partner. If you are considering an extra-wide dildo, choose dimensions that already match the receiving partner’s comfort and experience rather than treating larger sizes as a goal. Also check that the shape and construction are appropriate for the specific type of penetration you have in mind.
How to Choose the Right Size and Fit
Hollow strap-ons need to fit two people at once, so compare the internal and external measurements separately. For the wearer, check the cavity diameter and depth against their anatomy. The hollow section should fit securely without painful pressure, pinching, numbness or circulation problems.
For the receiving partner, compare the insertable length, diameter or circumference, shape and firmness of the external shaft. Choose dimensions that match their existing comfort and experience rather than assuming a longer or wider attachment will feel better.
Harness fit matters too. Check the manufacturer’s stated waist or hip range and adjust the straps so the attachment stays stable without excessive pressure. If the hollow cavity, external shaft or harness does not fit comfortably, choose a different size rather than trying to force the setup to work.
Features Worth Considering
Most hollow strap-ons are relatively straightforward, but powered models can add features such as vibration, textured external surfaces, rechargeable power, wired controls, remotes or multiple stimulation settings.
If you want vibration, compare how the system actually works rather than judging it by the number of available modes. Check whether the toy is rechargeable or battery-powered, whether vibration is built into the attachment or supplied by a separate component, and how easily the controls can be reached during use.
Wired controls are not automatically a disadvantage, and a toy does not need 10 or more settings to perform well. A simpler system with a few useful speeds or patterns may suit you better than a more complicated one. Also compare runtime, charging time, water-resistance rating, harness adjustability and cleaning requirements for the exact model before deciding whether the extra features are worth paying for.
Who Can Use a Hollow Strap-On?
Hollow strap-ons can be used by people of different genders and sexual orientations when the product’s design matches the wearer’s anatomy and the intended activity. Some models are designed to fit over a penis, while others may work with different wearer configurations depending on the harness, cavity shape and manufacturer instructions.
The hollow attachment can provide its own external dimensions and structural support during penetration, but flexibility and firmness vary significantly between products. Do not assume an empty hollow toy will automatically bend safely for every type of use, and only insert another vibrator or accessory inside the cavity if the manufacturer specifically supports that configuration.
What to Do
- Choose a comfortable harness with a stated fit range that allows secure adjustment without excessive pressure.
- Choose external dimensions that match the receiving partner’s existing comfort and experience rather than treating larger sizes as a goal.
- Make sure the wearer understands how to position and adjust the harness and hollow attachment correctly before use.
What to Avoid
- Don’t choose dimensions based on appearance alone. Discuss length, width, shape and firmness together before deciding what works for both partners.
- Don’t assume a one-piece or removable system is automatically better. Choose the attachment style that provides the fit, stability and compatibility you actually need.
- Don’t treat discomfort as something you need to push through. Communicate about depth, pressure and positioning, and stop if either partner experiences pain, numbness or persistent discomfort.
How to Use, Clean and Store Hollow Strap-Ons
The usage instructions for hollow strap-ons differ from a standard toy, so it’s worth reading the setup steps carefully. Actually, I do because using a strap-on is not as easy as it seems.
How to Put On a Hollow Strap-On
Start by checking the manufacturer’s fitting instructions for the exact hollow strap-on, since the order of fitting the attachment and harness can vary between designs.
Make sure the internal cavity matches the wearer’s anatomy and that the harness is adjusted securely without creating painful pressure, pinching or circulation problems. Do not assume the wearer needs to be semi-erect or that every hollow strap-on will work the same way when erection firmness varies.
Apply a lubricant that is compatible with the exact material and construction of the product, following the manufacturer’s guidance rather than relying on a blanket rule for silicone, TPE or other materials.
Fit the wearer into the hollow cavity slowly and adjust the attachment and harness as directed. Some designs may require excess air to be released during fitting, while others use a different retention method. Once everything feels secure and comfortable, check the positioning before penetration and readjust if the toy shifts, pinches or feels excessively tight.
How to Clean a Hollow Strap-On
Hollow strap-ons need careful cleaning because residue can collect inside the internal channel. A quick rinse is not enough, so follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions for each component after every use:
- Remove the hollow attachment from the harness if the product is designed to be disassembled.
- Clean the internal channel and exterior using the method and cleaner recommended for that specific material and construction.
- Rinse thoroughly when appropriate and allow the attachment to dry completely, including the inside of the hollow cavity.
- Clean the harness according to its own care instructions. Hand washing or machine washing should only be used when the manufacturer specifically permits that method.
- Once every component is completely dry, store the system according to the manufacturer’s recommendations in a clean, dry place away from excessive heat, moisture and direct sunlight.
Hollow Strap-On Design and Technology Today
Modern hollow strap-ons have become much more specialized, with manufacturers offering different internal cavity sizes, external dimensions, materials and harness systems to suit different wearer and receiver needs. Instead of relying on one generic shape, current designs range from slim and bulbed attachments to larger profiles and multi-attachment systems that let users switch between different sizes and shapes.
Harness design has improved as well. Some models use adjustable elastic waistbands, while others use strap-style or faux-leather harnesses with broader fit ranges. The important differences are how securely the harness holds the attachment, how evenly it distributes pressure and whether the hollow cavity fits the wearer comfortably.
Powered hollow strap-ons now add features such as rechargeable vibration, replaceable batteries and wired controls, while non-powered models focus more on shape, rigidity and interchangeable attachments. Other specialized designs include liquid reservoirs that create a simulated ejaculation effect. These features vary significantly between products, so the exact control system, power source and cleaning requirements should always be checked for the specific model.
One of the most useful improvements is better dimension disclosure. Current product listings increasingly provide internal cavity diameter, cavity depth, insertable length, external width or circumference and harness fit ranges, making it easier to compare products based on actual fit rather than marketing labels alone. You can also compare these features with other vibrating strap-ons to decide whether powered stimulation, a particular harness style or a simpler non-powered design better matches how you plan to use the toy.
FAQ
A properly fitted hollow strap-on should not cause pain, numbness, pinching, chafing or circulation problems. Fit depends on the internal dimensions of the hollow attachment, the wearer’s anatomy and the flexibility of the material. If the toy feels painfully tight, causes numbness or creates persistent discomfort, stop using it rather than trying to force a better fit.
No. A hollow strap-on should not be treated as contraception or as a substitute for condoms or other appropriate barriers. Its primary purpose is sexual stimulation and penetration, not pregnancy or STI prevention. If pregnancy or STI transmission is a concern, use an appropriate protective method and follow its instructions correctly.
That depends on your partner and how you approach the conversation. Rather than framing the toy around penis size, erection quality or something being inadequate, talk about the activity itself and what interests you about trying it together. Some hollow strap-ons add vibration, different external dimensions or a new type of shared stimulation. Ask how your partner feels about the idea and make sure trying one is something you both genuinely want.
Hollow strap-ons can be used by people of different genders and sexual orientations when the product’s dimensions, harness and intended use suit their anatomy and activity. The important factors are fit, comfort, secure positioning and following the manufacturer’s instructions. If you are using one for anal penetration, it does not replace appropriate barrier protection or other safer-sex practices.
Yes, some hollow strap-ons can provide external structure for penetration when maintaining erection firmness is difficult. However, they do not cure or treat erectile dysfunction, and results depend on the specific toy, fit and individual anatomy. If erection difficulties are persistent, new or concerning, speak with a qualified healthcare professional about possible causes and treatment options.
Do not force it. Check the manufacturer’s internal dimensions and fit guidance, use a lubricant that is compatible with the exact toy material and insert slowly. If the hollow section feels painfully tight, causes numbness, pinching, chafing or circulation problems, stop using it. If it is too loose to remain securely positioned, choose a model with dimensions that better match the wearer rather than trying to compensate with excessive tightening.
Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions for every component, since the dildo, harness, vibration unit, reservoir and other parts may require different care. Disassemble only the removable components the manufacturer allows, clean the hollow channel and exterior using the recommended method for that specific material and construction, rinse away any permitted cleaner thoroughly, and let every part dry completely before reassembling or storing the toy. Clean the harness according to its own care instructions rather than assuming it can be machine washed or submerged. For ejaculating models like the Fetish Fantasy Ejaculating from our list, clean the reservoir according to the manufacturer’s instructions and store it empty and fully dry.
There is no guarantee that a hollow strap-on will delay ejaculation. Because the wearer’s penis sits inside the hollow attachment, direct stimulation may feel different from intercourse without the toy, but the effect varies from person to person. Hollow strap-ons should not be presented as a treatment for premature ejaculation or as a reliable way to increase stamina.
The main difference is how the toy is retained during use. A hollow strap-on uses a harness to hold the hollow dildo in position around the wearer’s waist or hips. A penis sleeve or extender generally fits directly over the penis without a separate harness, although individual designs vary. Which style works better depends on anatomy, fit, erection firmness, movement and the retention system used by the specific product rather than on a medical diagnosis alone.
Focus on the experience rather than presenting the toy as a correction for your partner’s body. You might talk about wanting to try a different shape, added vibration, a hollow design or a new type of partnered play. Avoid describing the toy as a way to make your partner bigger, fix erection problems or build stamina. Choose the product together, discuss any concerns openly and treat it as an optional shared activity rather than something either partner needs to improve.
